SOCIAL STUDIES : Paola Guasp // AMARA Kitchen owner + Chef + Intuitive

Chances are, if you live on the east side and go to AMARA Kitchen, you'll see me eating a cookie and a matcha.  No lie, as I write this, I just finished my second cookie and am working on my second matcha... It's a genuine addiction and the creation of the master Chef, friend, and incredible woman Paola Guasp.  What she has cultivated with her Highland Park neighborhood restaurant is what community is made of.  She's cultivated a place where you can come and enjoy clean delicious food, sit with the locals as well as new faces that travel wide and far ( like myself , because I don't live near there ...but must come almost daily).  Employing locals, who all great you with a great smile and feel like friends, and have one of the strangely few outdoor seating areas in LA.  It feels like I am home when I am here.  Being able to cultivate a business that feels this way comes naturally to Paola, a mother to humans and animals alike, she embodies the divine feminine with every movement and notion to nurture and care for others.  I am grateful to call her a friend and so grateful that I get to enjoy her creations.  Also , it looks like her childhood dream to be a witch is alive and well - a kitchen witch to be specific, because I am for sure under a spell.

Who are you ?
Paola Guasp, restaurant owner, chef, nurturer, intuitive.

Why do you make your work?
To connect, nurture and disarm people.

What do you believe in?
Honesty, intuition, but most importantly kindness.

Name one thing you say no to?
Conventionality, status, rules - oops that’s three!
And one thing you say yes to?
Genuineness

What change would you like to see?
Food equity. I would like to see food access not be divided by wealth and
income levels. People from all walks of life need to have healthy food
assessable and know that it’s FOR THEM.

Name one thing that makes you happy?
Animals

How would you describe your personal routine ?
Constantly changing. I believe the power of a good routine but I’m a bit too
sporadic to be able to maintain one. Its something constantly I’m working
on.

What did you want to be as a child?
A witch, not a joke. Being able to tune into the undercurrents and magic of
life, who wouldn’t inspire to be!

Can you remember one solid piece of advice you've gotten for the
growth of your work?
That the word “no” does not mean the end.

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?
Anyone with a good attitude

Who is one person in culture that you feel is making positive and
inspiring change?
Maggie Doyne, wow just wow!
