SOCIAL STUDIES : DJ FREEDEM // DJ - Trap Gardner - Artist

DJ Freedem caught my eye instantly when I was scrolling through DAZED 100 a while back.  I am pretty sure as soon as I saw them, I stopped even looking at all the rest and went right to their page and was hooked.  Trap gardening at its finest.  Do you want to know how to are for your plant, and how to put a spell on someone when gifting on to them?  This is your person.  Not to mention mixing some serious beats to spend hours listening to.  And a wardrobe I wish I could melt into.  Freedem is also a feature in our Pride video campaign this month, and someone I hope to do more work with for a long time.

Who are you?
My name is DJ Freedem aka Freedella Dé Vil. I am a DJ first with a side fascination for gardening & harnessing the power that it has.

Why do you make your work?
I make my work because I've seen how myself & others are moved and inspired by other pieces of work and I want to constant recreate and spread that feeling.

What do you believe in?
I believe in the inner power of oneself. We all have untapped wells of power within & a lot of the time it takes a few pushes to activate that power.

Name one thing you say no to?
I say no to things that may annoy me. I have a pretty good annoyance radar & can read when a situation has the potential to be annoying to me because my mood is VERY important to me.

What change would you like to see?
I would like to see a change in people who look like me are treated.

Name one thing that makes you happy?
The vibration that music creates & the feeling that it creates inside of you.

How would you describe your personal routine ?
Grounding, meditative & empowering

What did you want to be as a child?
I wanted to be a veterinarian because I loved animals, still do. Some days I still think about what if I pursued a career in veterinary medicine over music.

Can you remember one solid piece of advice you've gotten for the growth of your work?
To take my craft and my image very seriously because I have nothing holding me back.

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?
M.I.A.

Who is one person in culture that you feel is making a positive and inspiring change ?
This is very difficult to answer because there are so many people, myself included, who have their niches & movements that are pushing for better changes in this world.
