SOCIAL STUDIES : Cici Shepard - NOTO Opps Manager / Makeup artist

Sometimes the universe brings magical angels into your world.  That is how I feel about Cici. A magical angel with a Virgo sun.  Which translates to the yang to my yin and organization to my madness.
I put out a call for an intern when I was about 6 months deep into launching NOTO.  Cici was the 3rd person I met.  I thought she was amazing form the start.  Funny enough,  I didn't go with her right away but kept her in the back of my mind, always.  About 6 months later I knew I needed her help and I rang her up.
When I started NOTO, I was all over the place with ideas, goals, expectations.  I knew I needed someone who could help me take my ideas into fruition and make them come to life by helping me put the pieces into place while I could be the messy artist ( I've gotten less messy, I promise).  I knew I needed someone I could delegate the things I knew I was not the strongest in, to.  Cici has been my answer to that.  She feels more to me like a partner than an employee and I am so grateful to have her as part of the NOTO soul essence and roots.
It's been an insane ride since starting NOTO.  I kind of went blindly into the business side of things - which tends to be the formula for most things I begin.  To a certain degree so did Cici.  But over the last year and a half, I have seen this woman turn into one of the most incredibly creative and technical managers, hardest workers , and loyal humans I have ever encountered.  In a way, we grew up and are continuing to grow up together in this.  I feel honored to have her as not only a peer but a friend.
Who are you?
Cici - Makeup and hair artist by trade - currently learning how to help run a company.  A love child between a 70's NYC Studio 54 disco babe + a nonna on the Italian countryside + an A-frame home in Palm Springs.

Why do you make your work?
Ruling planet of mercury - pleasure - my grandparent's work ethic

What do you believe in?
Finding meaning in small occurrences -
My horoscope.

Name one thing you say yes to? -
And one thing you say no to?
Yes to : spending time alone
No to : Being told no

What change would you like to see?
I'd love for us to put our phones down and go back to actual conversations with one another. I'd like the human connection to make a comeback.

Name one thing that makes you happy?
Talks with my father at Columbo's
How would you describe your routine?
A bit indulgent - I really enjoy taking care of my skin...My mother and grandmother always emphasized doing so and therefore I started really young. I cleanse my face 2x a day, exfoliate 3-4x a week, moisturize with both oils and creams, lip scrubs + balms, jade rollers, cold eye masks, hot showers...it goes on. I also pay attention to what goes inside my body and am quite aware of any imbalances I feel due to diet and lack of exercise.

What did you want to be as a child?
A blues singer or writer.

Can you remember one solid piece of advice you've gotten for the growth of your work?
Don't take things too personally

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?
My father. He is also an artist/ filmmaker and we share this nostalgic - Godfather-esque - passionate emotion aesthetic and we have a lot of very bizarre family history to help support it. I'd really love to make a film with him that reflects some of the things we've been through.

Who is one person in culture/ media / etc. that you feel is making positive and inspiring change ?
It is a collective of women called GirlGaze - a collection of photographs and stories through various female lenses that showcase the world in its past, present and future state.
